Calamatta Landscapes Ltd.,
originally known as Peter Calamatta The
Garden Shop Nursery, was founded by Peter Calamatta approximately 35 years
ago. Over the years, the company evolved
from a small retail business to a full scale organisation offering landscaping
works, gardening maintenance services and also offering a wide range of plants,
shrubs and gardening accessories.
The company’s reins were handed
over to Peter’s son, Carlos, in 2000. Carlos ushered the company into the new century
and steered it toward it’s core business: landscaping. This also brought about
the company’s re-branding to Calamatta Landscapes, the strengthening of its
management team, and growth to an enterprise of over forty employees.
In 2003, the company joined
forces with another three parties to set up Malta first ever public private
partnership with the government - The Environmental Landscapes Consortium
This saw the start of much needed
embellishment of public gardens and other open areas in Malta and a dramatic
improvement in their landscaping and general maintenance. With time, this was
extended to all major roads and intersections and truly went a long way in
making Malta greener.
Having most of Malta’s large
landscaping projects, such as Portomaso, the rooftop garden at the
Intercontinental Hotel, Malta International Airport, the Radisson Hotel and The
Westin under it’s belt, in 2014 Calamatta Landscapes Ltd went on to form Medisun
Landscapes Limited and transferred it’s day -to-day operations to this related
company. Calamatta Landscapes therefore became the holding company operating
through E.L.C. and Medisun Landscapes.
Medisun Landscapes Limited brings
together Carlos Calamatta from Calamatta Landscapes Ltd, Lewis Micallef, owner
of Green Supplier Limited, a large plant production and horticultural
enterprise, Charles Polidano from the successful Polidano Construction Group
and lastly Boris Farrugia, whose management and finance expertise completes the
top team to bring together a company whose experience and track record places
it in an unrivalled position to tackle
the major landscaping works which private entrepreneurs and individuals are
planning for Malta and Gozo.
Medisun will also seek to create
an export market for the yearly production of millions of rooted plant cuttings
through the subsidiary Medsun Plants. For this latter purpose, Medsun Plants is
developing a production nursery in the limits of Attard on which acres of giant
greenhouses will be erected and in which these export plants will be grown
using the most modern techniques and technology which the industry has to
